“Nevada Human Development Corporation (NHDC) did a presentation at my High School in Smith Valley, a week before my High School Graduation. I remember being anxious because I did not know what I was going to do after my graduation. Most of my classmates discussed going away to college, I was a teen mom just hoping to graduate.
Enrolling into the NHDC program was a life changing opportunity. As a daughter of a farmworker living in farmworker housing I was told I qualified, so I enrolled. I received job readiness training and Resume building/interview course. Which helped me prepare for my future job search. Shortly after, I was attending the Dental Assistant program which was paid for by NHDC. Throughout my Dental Assistant training I was able to depend on my workforce coordinator for support when needed. I finished my training on 8/19/17, and started my career as a Dentist Assistant at Smith Valley Smiles making $10.00 right in my rural hometown. I am excited for my future this is just the beginning. I want to gain experience so one day I can become a Dental Office manager, and even continue my education and become a Dental Hygienist." |
