The Weatherization Program helps low-income households reduce energy costs and improve home safety. Once approved, a free Home Energy Audit will be scheduled to assess insulation, furnace, ductwork, and other key areas.
Based on the audit, approved energy-saving upgrades are installed by a certified contractor. A final inspection ensures the work is safe and effective. This program is designed to make your home more energy-efficient, safe, and comfortable.

Start by calling our office for a short phone interview to see if you might qualify. If eligible, your household will be added to the weatherization waitlist.

When your name comes up, we’ll schedule an intake appointment and let you know what documents are needed to confirm eligibility.

Next, we’ll perform a Home Energy Audit to evaluate insulation, furnace, ductwork, water heater, and ventilation. We also test for air leaks, carbon monoxide, moisture, and other safety concerns.

Audit results are entered into an Energy Management Program that calculates which upgrades are cost-effective. Only improvements that save as much as they cost to install will be approved.

This program is free to qualifying households and aims to improve comfort, safety, and efficiency.

How the Weatherization Program Works

For example, if attic insulation costs $1,000, we must project at least $1,000 in energy savings over 25 years—about $3.33 per month—for it to qualify.

Lower-cost, high-savings upgrades like attic insulation and air sealing are more likely to be approved than high-cost, low-savings options like new doors or windows.

Once upgrades are approved, a work order is issued to a certified contractor. They will contact you to schedule the installation and answer any questions.

After the work is complete, the Program Coordinator will return to conduct a final inspection. This includes a walk-through and testing to ensure the improvements are effective and safe.

Our goal is to help eligible residents in Klamath and Lake Counties save on energy bills and live in safer, more comfortable homes.
